Want a pet? Get rapt in a reptile

A YELLOW anaconda will be one of the drawcards at the Hawkesbury Herpetological Society’s upcoming reptile show on March 4.
Measuring four-and-a-half metres and requiring the muscle of two people to carry it, the exotic snake from the Australian Reptile Park at Gosford was ‘‘a mere young ’un’’, said herpetological society president John Mostyn of South Penrith.
Also on show, a green iguana and a tegu: an Argentinian lizard.
Mr Mostyn said there would be a snake and invertebrate show and a large selection of Australian reptiles on display as well as a ‘‘huge’’ collection of Australian reptiles and reptile-keeping items for sale.
People can also have their photograph taken with a scaly creature.
Anyone who wishes to keep a reptile as a pet must have a licence.
Class one reptiles were easy to keep, Mr Mostyn said.
He said a children’s python, a spotted python or diamond python was ideal for someone just starting out.
