Application for college is something that students and parents should be prepared for. The success of a college application does not rely solely on the students but also with the help of their parents. As a parent, we always wanted the best for our kids. To help our college get prepared for college application, we are listing below the five important steps to take while our student is still in high school.

Be Available

The first step that we should take in preparing our children for high school is to be available. Yes, we have a busy life. However, our time with our teens is very precious too. It is important that we will spend some time for family dinner, sporting events and back to school nights. By being present in their school and in their life, teens will get to realize that academic is important and so do they. If possible, it would be best if we will include a one on one talk with our teen in our to-do list. This is a good signal that our teen is as important as our work contacts.

Be Organized

Showing to our teens good organizational skills will help our teen will help them sort things out. There are many steps to this process. We can teach our teens to set timetables and work within deadlines. It is important to take note that academics get a lot harder than high school and balancing with academic testing as well as filling up applications requires a lot of coordination.

Set Reasonable Goals

A student being seized is unlikely to get into an Ivy League School. This does not mean that there are not a lot of other good options available. Some students need to be pushed and some has the ability to push themselves. By getting to know your child as an individual and understanding their goals, you can better help them achieve them.

Do not Stress and Stay Positive

The pre-coach process can cause a lot of stress. However, it does not have to make everyone crazy. It is important that we will practice some stress management technique and we will become calmer. One of the techniques we should take is to set aside some time with our teen to talk about college issues.

Do not Take Over

Give your teen ownership of this process. This will show that you trust your teen in making good decisions. While you cannot write the essay for them, you can do the research for scholarship and make time for college visits.
