As a student, we are bound to take the exam or test periodically. We all want to pass a test. However, do you know effective ways to study for a test? Are you the type that crams or the ones that has a system? If you are a student or a parent of a student who are struggling of knowing the best ways to prepare for an exam and pass it, we have listed a few of the ways to prepare for an exam.

Study – the most common thing we do to prepare for an exam is to study. However, many of us are having trouble remembering things for a test even after we study. Experts said that one of the reasons why we forget what we study is that we get nervous. Other reason is that we do not give ourselves enough time to prepare for an exam.

Reduce Anxiety – anxiety is common when taking a test. The best way to help anxiety during test taking is to practice some emergency techniques like deep breathing, imagining some scenario beforehand that will make you feel peaceful and calm. Imagine for an image that will make you feel relaxed and go back to that image you feel the need to.

The moment you have anxiety attacks or meltdown during exams, the best way to get back on track is to work your way. If for example you are facing a multiple choice question, eliminating the alternatives you remembered are not right is the best thing to do. In this way, you were narrowing down your focus.

Teach Children good test taking habits – parents can also help their kids prepare for an exam or test. One of the best things they can do is to teach children good test taking habits. Parents should keep in mind that learning how to take the test is also learning how to be prepared in terms of getting enough sleep, eating well, dealing with stress effectively and organizing ahead of time.

Cramming – many students think that cramming is the best way to prepare for a test. While this can be good and most of the time works out, the problem of cramming is sometimes it can overwhelm our brains. Sometimes it is just too much information to effectively keep track of. However, if someone has to cram, he or she must distill down that cramming to what really he or she is going to need to know for that test. In this way, they can place some limits on what they are trying to retain.
