Concerning pet box turtles, is it okay to have corncob as a ground for them to walk on and lay eggs, etc.?

The place where I bought the box turtles, Hoffman's reptile shop, said that corncob works just fine and I want to know if this is sound advice.
My mom say's that the corncob is fine and that I shouldn't worry about it.
Unfortunately, the

box turtles need high humidity. Corn cob bedding has no humidity and if you get it wet enough to provide humdity to the enclosure then it molds and becomes swiftly toxic.

So no its not your best choice.
